SRINAGAR: A 16-year-old boy died while another was hospitalised after a drowning incident in Theed Nallah at Harwan on the outskirts of Srinagar on Friday, officials said.
The deceased was identified as Basit Bashir Akhoon, son of Bashir Ahmad Akhoon, a resident of Akhoon Mohalla, Sada Kadal, Srinagar.
According to officials, Basit drowned while bathing in the stream. During efforts to rescue him, another boy, identified as Tawheed, also entered the water and drowned.
Both were retrieved from the stream and rushed to the Primary Health Centre (PHC), Habak. Doctors declared Basit brought dead, while Tawheed was admitted for treatment and is undergoing medical care.
Police have taken cognisance of the incident and initiated further investigation, officials said.
