ANANTNAG: An 80-year-old man from Akingam village in south Kashmir’s Anantnag district was allegedly robbed by unidentified persons after accepting a lift from them, prompting demands for a police investigation.
According to reports, the elderly man had travelled to Anantnag town last week to offer Friday prayers. While returning home from the Janglat Mandi area, he allegedly accepted a lift from a group of unknown men who told him they would drop him at Akingam.
Instead of taking him home, the men allegedly drove him to a secluded location, robbed him of his cash and other belongings, stripped him of his clothes and abandoned him before fleeing, the reports said.
Speaking during Friday prayers, Islamic scholar Maqbool Akrani described the incident as shocking and appealed to the police and district administration to identify those responsible and bring them to justice.
He also urged people, particularly elderly citizens, to avoid accepting lifts from unknown persons as a precaution.
There was no immediate official statement from the police regarding the incident. (KNT)
