SRINAGAR: Secretary, Jammu and Kashmir Sports Council, Nuzhat Gul on Friday reviewed the sports infrastructure and ongoing development works at the Gindun Sports Complex in Rajbagh, directing officials to expedite pending projects and ensure optimum utilisation of the facilities.
During her visit, the Secretary inspected infrastructure for various sporting disciplines, including volleyball, basketball, skating and handball, and reviewed the utilisation of existing facilities. She also interacted with officials on measures to further improve the sporting environment for athletes and aspiring sportspersons.
Inspecting the Gymnastics Hall, Gul directed officials to complete all necessary arrangements for its early operationalisation so that gymnasts have access to a dedicated and professionally equipped training facility.
She also reviewed preparations for the proposed archery and shooting facilities and instructed the concerned officials to fast-track the works and develop the centres in accordance with the technical requirements of the two disciplines.
The Secretary inspected the newly completed swimming pool complex, including facilities developed for children and beginners. The infrastructure, she was informed, is ready for further augmentation and operationalisation and is expected to strengthen aquatic sports in Srinagar by providing structured training opportunities for young swimmers.
Emphasising the timely completion of the remaining works, Gul directed officials to maintain high standards of upkeep and ensure effective utilisation of all sporting infrastructure.
She observed that the centrally located Gindun Sports Complex has the potential to emerge as a major multi-sports training hub catering to athletes and youth from Srinagar and adjoining areas.
Reiterating the Sports Council’s commitment to strengthening grassroots sports, Gul said modern and accessible sports infrastructure is essential for widening participation, promoting healthy lifestyles and creating opportunities for young talent across Jammu and Kashmir.
The visit, officials said, is part of the Sports Council’s ongoing efforts to strengthen sports infrastructure, improve utilisation of sporting assets and develop an athlete-centric ecosystem across the Union Territory.
