PAHALGAM: Additional Chief Secretary, Jal Shakti Department, Shaleen Kabra, on Friday reviewed water supply infrastructure and flood mitigation measures along the Pahalgam axis of the ongoing Shri Amarnath Ji Yatra-2026, stressing proactive maintenance and coordinated efforts to ensure uninterrupted essential services.
During the tour, Kabra inspected key transit and base camps, including Chandanwari, Pissu Top, Zojibal, Sheshnag, Mahagunas Top, Poshpathri, Panjtarni, the Holy Cave and Baltal, to assess the operational readiness of water supply installations and review the progress of infrastructure works.
He reviewed permanent facilities developed to strengthen the water supply system, including nine service reservoirs, five store sheds-cum-staff accommodation units and a lift station at Mahagunas Top.
The Additional Chief Secretary also assessed projects aimed at enhancing future capacity, including safety storage tanks for emergency use, a service reservoir at Panjtarni, a dedicated raw water supply line for the Nunwan Base Camp, and additional staff accommodation at Panjtarni and Chandanwari.
Kabra expressed satisfaction over the installation of reverse osmosis (RO) plants and the provision of water connections to all toilet units along the Yatra route in accordance with directions of the Shri Amarnathji Shrine Board.
He directed engineers to ensure that pipelines, pumping stations and distribution networks remain fully operational and capable of withstanding adverse weather conditions so that uninterrupted drinking water supply is maintained throughout the pilgrimage.
The ACS also inspected flood protection works near the Holy Cave and stressed the timely completion and strengthening of flood channels to minimise the risk of flash floods and enhance pilgrim safety.
Emphasising public health, Kabra directed regular monitoring of drinking water quality through field testing kits at langars, holding areas and base camps. He also instructed field staff to maintain round-the-clock vigilance, adequate backup equipment and effective contingency plans to ensure immediate restoration of services in case of any disruption.
Interacting with officers and field personnel, he emphasised proactive maintenance, continuous monitoring and close coordination to ensure the smooth delivery of essential services during the Yatra.
