SRINAGAR: Jammu and Kashmir Pradesh Congress Committee (JKPCC) president Tariq Hameed Karra on Thursday interacted with students, teachers and parents in Srinagar under the nationwide “Chhatron Ki Goonj” campaign, raising concerns over alleged paper leaks, examination disruptions and delays in recruitment.
According to the party, around 1,000 students, teachers and parents participated in the programme, where students highlighted issues including repeated postponement of examinations, alleged irregularities in recruitment, unemployment, academic stress and the financial burden of competitive exam preparation.
Several participants expressed concern over what they described as a loss of confidence in the education and recruitment system, citing repeated delays, cancellations and alleged paper leak incidents.
Addressing the gathering, Karra said students deserved transparent examinations, timely recruitment and equal opportunities, adding that the Congress would continue to raise issues concerning students and youth.
He also said the party would continue engaging with students through the “Chhatron Ki Goonj” campaign on matters relating to educational reforms, recruitment, mental well-being and employment.
Later, speaking to reporters, Karra reiterated the Congress demand for the restoration of Jammu and Kashmir’s statehood, saying the party had been the first to organise a protest at Jantar Mantar on the issue. Referring to the National Conference’s proposed protest, he said he was “happy to see other parties now following the same path.”
On the ongoing Shri Amarnath Ji Yatra, Karra welcomed the pilgrims and said Kashmir had a long tradition of hospitality and communal harmony.
Among those present were Indian Youth Congress president Uday Bhanu Chib (who joined virtually from New Delhi), District Congress Committee Srinagar president Dr Audil Farooq Mir, Mahila Congress president Shameema Raina, IYC in-charge for Jammu and Kashmir Maan Singh Rathore, and other Congress leaders.
