Srinagar: Jammu and Kashmir will host the National Coaching Camp for the Indian Soft Tennis teams ahead of the 20th Asian Games, Japan 2026, marking the first time the Union Territory will stage a national training camp for an Indian team preparing for the continental event.

The camp, organised by the J&K Amateur Soft Tennis Association under the aegis of the Amateur Soft Tennis Federation of India (ASTFI) in collaboration with the J&K Sports Council, will be held at the Gindun Sports Stadium, Rajbagh, Srinagar, from July 10 to August 13, 2026.

The organisers described the camp as a major milestone for Jammu and Kashmir, reflecting growing confidence in the Union Territory’s sporting infrastructure and organisational capabilities.

The J&K Sports Council said it would provide the necessary infrastructure and logistical support to ensure the successful conduct of the national camp.

Soft Tennis is recognised by the Ministry of Youth Affairs and Sports and is affiliated with the Asian Soft Tennis Federation and the International Soft Tennis Federation. The sport also features in the National Games and the Asian Games.

In Jammu and Kashmir, the sport has expanded steadily under the J&K Amateur Soft Tennis Association, which has won five gold, 13 silver and 10 bronze medals at national and international competitions. The association has also established 18 affiliated district units and has hosted five national championships across different categories.

A senior official of the J&K Sports Council said hosting the national camp is a proud moment for the Union Territory and will provide local players with an opportunity to train alongside the country’s top athletes and learn from national-level coaches.

The Sports Council appealed to sports enthusiasts and the public to support the athletes and officials participating in the camp and celebrate the milestone for sports in Jammu and Kashmir.
