Srinagar: The Jammu and Kashmir Government is actively considering announcing summer vacations for schools across the Kashmir Division in view of the prevailing heatwave conditions, Health and Medical Education Minister Sakina Itoo said on Saturday.
Speaking to reporters, the Minister acknowledged the intense heat being experienced across the Valley and said the government is closely monitoring the weather situation before taking a final decision on the school calendar.
She said summer vacations are important, especially when prolonged high temperatures begin affecting the health and well-being of students. The Minister added that the government is examining the prevailing conditions and will take an appropriate decision regarding the commencement of the summer break in the coming days.
The issue comes amid increasing demand from parents, students and teachers for early summer vacations as Kashmir continues to witness unusually high temperatures.
Concerns have been raised over the impact of extreme heat on students attending schools, particularly during peak daytime hours. Parents and education stakeholders have urged the administration to take necessary measures to ensure the safety and comfort of children.
The government is expected to announce its decision after assessing the weather forecast and holding consultations with the concerned departments.
