Shopian: Jammu and Kashmir Police have seized seven tractors allegedly involved in illegal mining activities in the Turkwangam Nallah area of Shopian district, as part of a continued crackdown against unauthorised extraction and transportation of minerals.
According to police, a team from Police Post Turkwangam acted on specific information regarding illegal mining and intercepted the vehicles involved in the activity. The seized tractors were allegedly being used for extraction and transportation of minerals without valid royalty documents.
Police have registered FIR No. 86/2026 at Police Station Zainapora under relevant sections of law, and further investigation into the matter is underway.
Authorities said strict action will continue against persons involved in illegal mining and activities causing damage to natural resources. Police reiterated their commitment to curbing such practices and protecting the environment.
