The police said the action was taken under the ongoing Nasha Mukt Abhiyan against habitual drug peddlers and smugglers involved in the illicit narcotics trade.

According to officials, the accused has been booked in multiple cases under the Narcotic Drugs and Psychotropic Substances (NDPS) Act at Samba police station as well as Dharamshala in Himachal Pradesh’s Kangra district.

In view of his repeated involvement in drug trafficking, the senior superintendent of police (SSP), Samba, prepared and submitted a dossier along with relevant documents to the divisional commissioner, Jammu, they said.

Acting on the recommendation, the divisional commissioner issued a formal detention order under the Prevention of Illicit Traffic in Narcotic Drugs and Psychotropic Substances (PITNDPS) Act, following which the accused was lodged in Bhaderwah jail.

Teji has a long criminal history and was earlier detained under the Public Safety Act in 2024. Despite previous preventive action and criminal proceedings, he allegedly continued to engage in drug peddling activities, necessitating stringent action under the PITNDPS Act, the police said.
