Srinagar: Minister for Education, Social Welfare, Health & Medical Education, Sakeena Itoo, on Thursday held detailed discussions with Himachal Pradesh Education Minister Rohit Thakur in Srinagar, focusing on exchange of ideas, sharing of best practices and innovative reforms to further strengthen the education systems of both regions.
During the interaction, the two Ministers discussed key issues related to school and higher education sectors, including improving academic standards, digital learning, teacher capacity building, skill development and strengthening educational infrastructure.
Sakeena Itoo highlighted the progress made by Jammu and Kashmir in the education sector over the past two years, stating that the government is committed to ensuring quality, inclusive and equitable education through modernisation of institutions, expansion of digital learning facilities, strengthening teacher training programmes and promoting skill-based education.
She said the School Education Department has recorded significant improvements in recent years, with better performance outcomes in Class 10 and Class 12 examinations. The Minister reiterated that the focus remains on building a strong academic ecosystem aligned with national priorities and global standards.
The Minister also highlighted various initiatives aimed at improving access to education in remote and far-flung areas, enhancing learning outcomes, encouraging innovation and research, and creating greater opportunities for students through technology-enabled learning.
She emphasised that education remains central to empowering youth and driving socio-economic development in Jammu and Kashmir.
Himachal Pradesh Education Minister Rohit Thakur shared details of reforms undertaken by his government to strengthen school education, improve academic quality and expand access to learning opportunities, particularly in rural and mountainous areas.
He highlighted Himachal Pradesh’s achievements in literacy, community participation in education and efforts to improve learning outcomes through innovative teaching practices.
Both Ministers expressed satisfaction over the constructive discussions and agreed to enhance cooperation and knowledge-sharing between Jammu and Kashmir and Himachal Pradesh in areas of mutual interest.
They underlined that collaboration and exchange of successful practices would help in building a future-ready education system capable of meeting the aspirations of students and preparing them for emerging opportunities.
Senior officers from the School Education Departments of both governments were present during the meeting.
