Sakeena reviews functioning of SMHS, Super Speciality Hospital

SRINAGAR: Minister for Health and Medical Education, Social Welfare and Education, Sakeena Itoo on Tuesday reviewed the functioning of SMHS Hospital and Super Speciality Hospital, Srinagar, with a focus on patient care, healthcare delivery and hospital management.

The meeting was attended by Principal GMC Srinagar, Medical Superintendents of SMHS Hospital and Super Speciality Hospital, heads of various super-speciality departments and other senior officials.

During the review, the Minister assessed diagnostic facilities, availability of medicines and other critical services being provided at the two hospitals. Discussions also focused on the quality of healthcare services, sanitation standards and staff responsiveness.

Sakeena Itoo stressed the need to ensure that patients receive timely, efficient and compassionate healthcare. She directed the hospital administration to maintain strict cleanliness and hygiene standards across wards, corridors and public areas, describing a clean hospital environment as essential for quality healthcare and infection prevention.

She instructed officials to strengthen sanitation measures through regular monitoring, timely waste disposal and periodic inspections. The Minister also called for special attention to waiting areas, washrooms and common facilities to ensure a safe and dignified environment for patients and attendants.

The Minister underscored the importance of coordinated efforts among doctors, nursing staff, paramedics and support personnel in delivering seamless healthcare services. She urged hospital authorities to remain responsive to patients’ concerns and address operational issues promptly.

Reviewing infrastructure and service delivery, Sakeena directed officials to identify gaps requiring immediate intervention and expedite measures aimed at improving efficiency, reducing inconvenience to patients and enhancing the overall healthcare experience.

She reiterated the government’s commitment to strengthening tertiary healthcare institutions across Jammu and Kashmir through improved infrastructure, modern medical facilities and patient-centric governance. She also emphasised the need for continuous monitoring and accountability to ensure public health institutions meet people’s expectations.

During the meeting, hospital administrators and senior officers briefed the Minister on the functioning of various departments, patient inflow, availability of medical equipment, manpower position and ongoing initiatives aimed at improving healthcare services.
