KUPWARA: The Kupwara Women’s Volleyball League 2026 commenced on Tuesday at Government Boys Higher Secondary School (BHSS), Kupwara, under the Indian Army’s Roshan Mustaqbil initiative in collaboration with the District Youth Services and Sports Department (DYSS).
The tournament was inaugurated by Colonel Namrata Rathore, who encouraged the participating players to display sportsmanship and determination during the competition.
Senior Superintendent of Police Kupwara, Syed Al Tahir Gilani, District Youth Services and Sports Officer Kupwara, District Education Planning Officer Kupwara and the Principal of BHSS Kupwara were present at the opening ceremony.
The three-day tournament, scheduled from June 23 to 25, is being played in a league format and features eight women’s volleyball teams from different parts of the district. Nearly 100 players are participating in the event.
A large number of spectators, students and sports enthusiasts attended the opening matches.
The league aims to encourage women’s participation in sports, provide a platform for young athletes to showcase their talent and promote community engagement through competitive sporting activities.
