Sakeena Itoo lays foundation for flood protection works worth nearly ₹5 crore in Kulgam

KULGAM, JUNE 20: Minister for Education, Health and Medical Education and Social Welfare, Sakeena Itoo, on Saturday laid foundation stones for major flood protection projects in the Gudder Laisoo area of Kulgam district and interacted with residents during a public outreach programme.

During her visit, the Minister laid the foundation stone for a permanent restoration bund at Laisoo to be constructed at an estimated cost of ₹2.50 crore. She also laid the foundation stone for a flood protection bund at Gudder Laisoo with an estimated cost of ₹2.46 crore.

On the occasion, the Minister inaugurated a recently completed flood protection bund constructed at a cost of ₹22.55 lakh, which is expected to help protect the area from erosion and flood-related damage.

She was accompanied by Shahzad Alam and officers from the Roads and Buildings Department, Irrigation and Flood Control Department and other district departments.

Later, Sakeena Itoo chaired a public outreach programme at Gudder village, where she interacted with local residents and listened to their grievances, developmental concerns and public demands.

During the interaction, residents raised several issues, particularly seeking repair, improvement and upgradation of roads in the area. The Minister assured them that all genuine demands would be taken up with the concerned departments for timely redressal.

Addressing the gathering, she informed the people that additional flood protection bunds have already been approved and work on these projects would commence shortly.

The Minister said the government led by Chief Minister Omar Abdullah is taking necessary measures to strengthen public infrastructure and improve living conditions across Jammu and Kashmir.

She reiterated that the government remains committed to public welfare and will continue efforts to improve infrastructure, public services and disaster protection measures in vulnerable areas.
