Srinagar: Police arrested a drug peddler and seized over seven kilograms of poppy straw in separate anti-narcotics operations conducted in Tral and Ashmuqam areas, a police spokesperson informed Thursday.
In Tral, police intercepted and later arrested one Mohammad Sultan Sofi of Dadasara, after 1.165 kilograms of poppy straw was recovered from his possession.
In another operation, police in the Ashmuqam area conducted a search of the premises belonging to Mst. Fatima, of Amad, and recovered 5.960 kilograms of poppy straw from there.
Further investigations in both cases are underway to ascertain the source of the contraband and to identify any forward or backward linkages associated with the illegal narcotics network, police said.
