BARAMULLA: The Inter-Zonal District Level Kho Kho Competition for Under-14 Boys commenced on Thursday at the Higher Secondary School Khawaja Bagh Ground, Baramulla, with enthusiastic participation from young athletes across the district.
The two-day championship is being organised by the Department of Youth Services and Sports (DYSS) Baramulla under its annual sports calendar with the objective of identifying and nurturing young sporting talent.
The tournament was inaugurated by District Youth Services and Sports Officer (DYSSO) Baramulla, Mushtaq Ahmad Pampori, in the presence of Activity Incharges Mubeen Ahmad Khan (PEM) and Shabir Ahmad Thoker (PEM), besides technical officials, field staff, team managers and participating athletes.
A total of 18 zonal teams comprising 216 players from different educational zones of Baramulla district are taking part in the championship.
The competition is being conducted on a league format to ensure maximum exposure and competitive opportunities for all participating teams. Each team is scheduled to play four matches during the tournament.
Speaking on the occasion, Mushtaq Ahmad Pampori highlighted the importance of sports in shaping character, discipline, leadership qualities and the overall personality development of students.
He encouraged the participants to uphold the spirit of sportsmanship, teamwork and fair play while striving for excellence on the field.
The DYSSO reiterated the department’s commitment to providing quality sporting platforms to students across the district and creating opportunities for talented athletes to compete at higher levels.
The championship will continue over the next two days and conclude with the crowning of district champions following a series of league-stage matches.
