Dr Shahid Iqbal also inspected ongoing and proposed construction works and reviewed the progress of developmental projects aimed at strengthening academic and training amenities for students.

The Commissioner Secretary visited the Sports Science and Research Laboratory of the college, where students pursuing Bachelor of Physical Education (B.P.Ed.) and Master of Physical Education (M.P.Ed.) briefed him about various advanced testing and training stations established for scientific assessment of athletes.

The laboratory houses facilities for anthropometric measurements, force plate analysis for evaluating athletic performance, magnetic timing gates for speed and agility testing, cricket performance analysis software, bowling machines, BLS equipment and several other modern sports science tools.

Observing that the college possesses state-of-the-art infrastructure for sports education, research and athlete performance enhancement, Dr Shahid Iqbal directed the Director General, YSS, to ensure optimum utilisation of the available facilities.

He also advised the department to introduce diploma and certificate courses at the institution. During the meeting, the Director General informed him that several refresher and certification courses are scheduled to be organised at GCOPE during June and July.

While interacting with students, the Commissioner Secretary listened to their feedback and suggestions and assured them that all genuine concerns would be addressed. He also shared his vision for developing GCOPE into a centre of excellence in sports and physical education.

On the sidelines of the review meeting and student interaction, a presentation on the topic “Bridging the Gap Between Physical Education, Sports Science, Physiotherapy and Health Science” was delivered by Dr Suhail Ahmed Mir on the directions of the Commissioner Secretary.

Later, Dr Shahid Iqbal and Director General Anuradha Gupta interacted with young athletes participating in various sporting events being held on the college campus, including the Inter-Zone Badminton Competition organised by the District Youth Services and Sports Officer, Ganderbal.

They appreciated the participants for their enthusiasm, sportsmanship and competitive spirit and encouraged them to continue striving for excellence in sports.

District Youth Services and Sports Officer Ganderbal and other officers and officials of the Youth Services and Sports Department were also present during the visit.
