Srinagar: Marking World Environment Day, the Directorate of Floriculture, Gardens and Parks, Kashmir Division, on Friday organised extensive plantation drives across gardens, public parks and recreational green spaces throughout the Valley.
The drives were conducted simultaneously across various establishments managed by the department, including the Mughal Gardens, Polo Ground Park, Emporium Garden and several public parks located in Srinagar, Anantnag, Baramulla, Budgam, Pulwama and other districts of Kashmir.
Officers and staff of the department actively participated in the initiative, planting indigenous flowering species, ornamental trees and native shrubs aimed at enhancing both the aesthetic appeal and ecological resilience of public green spaces.
The plantation campaign formed part of the department’s efforts to promote environmental conservation, increase green cover and strengthen sustainable landscaping practices across the Valley.
The Directorate reiterated that plantation and green cover enhancement remain a year-round priority and are integral to its operational mandate rather than being confined to a single-day observance.
Officials said the department will continue its efforts through ongoing nursery development and landscaping programmes aimed at preserving and expanding Kashmir’s green assets.
