Jammu: Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) leaders on Friday organized plantation drives across Jammu and Kashmir to mark World Environment Day, planting 6,714 saplings through 424 programmes aimed at promoting environmental conservation and public participation.
J&K BJP president and Rajya Sabha MP Sat Sharma, along with district president Nand Kishore Sharma and other party leaders, participated in a plantation drive at the Baba Kailakh Dev Shrine in Jammu North constituency. The leaders planted saplings and urged people to contribute towards protecting nature and preserving the environment for future generations.
Addressing the gathering, Sharma said environmental protection is a collective responsibility and called upon citizens to actively participate in conservation efforts. Referring to Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s “Ek Ped Maa Ke Naam” initiative, he said the campaign has helped strengthen people’s emotional connection with nature and encouraged every citizen to plant and nurture at least one tree.
Meanwhile, J&K BJP General Secretary (Organisation) Ashok Koul, along with General Secretary Baldev Singh Billawaria, Jammu South district president Naresh Singh Jasrotia, Principal Mussarat Jabeen and others, participated in a plantation drive under the “Ek Ped Maa Ke Naam” campaign at Government Girls Higher Secondary School, Shastri Nagar. A cleanliness drive was also organised on the school premises.
Koul stressed the need for collective participation in environmental conservation and urged youth to become active stakeholders in building a cleaner and greener society. He said individual efforts, when combined, can have a significant impact on environmental protection.
Billawaria highlighted the importance of public awareness and community participation, saying tree plantation should become a regular practice rather than a one-day activity.
BJP Mahila Morcha, led by its J&K president Neha Mahajan, organised an awareness seminar followed by a plantation drive at DAV Collegiate School, Lachipur, Kathua. The programme was attended by BJP General Secretary Gopal Mahajan, district president Updesh Andotra, Geeta Bhagat and other leaders.
Gopal Mahajan called upon citizens to support initiatives aimed at protecting nature and promoting a cleaner environment, while Neha Mahajan encouraged students to play an active role in environmental conservation.
The BJP Industry Cell, led by Deepak Gupta, also observed World Environment Day by organising a plantation drive and an awareness seminar in an industrial area in the presence of party leaders and workers.
