Srinagar: Ali Mohammad Sagar on Saturday said that Srinagar, as the political, cultural and economic nerve centre of Kashmir, occupies a pivotal place in the development vision of the government led by Chief Minister Omar Abdullah.

Sagar made these remarks during a day-long tour of the Brein and Baba Demb areas of the Khanyar Assembly constituency, where he reviewed ongoing development works, assessed civic amenities and interacted with residents.

During the public outreach programme, he met local residents, youth, traders and representatives of various community groups. He also inspected the availability of ration supplies and reviewed the pace and quality of developmental works underway in the area.

Addressing the public, Sagar said Srinagar is not merely a city but the face of Kashmir and a reflection of the region’s aspirations, heritage and identity.

“Srinagar is not merely a city; it is the face of Kashmir and a reflection of our collective aspirations, heritage and identity. Its development is intrinsically linked with the progress of the entire region,” he said.

The NC leader said the Omar Abdullah-led government is committed to ensuring planned, balanced and sustainable growth in Srinagar through focused interventions across key sectors.

According to Sagar, the elected government has adopted a comprehensive development strategy aimed at improving the quality of life of citizens while addressing long-pending infrastructural deficiencies.

In a veiled criticism of previous administrations, he said successive non-National Conference governments had failed to provide Srinagar with the attention and resources it deserved, resulting in developmental deficits and civic challenges over the years.

Sagar said the present government is pursuing a people-centric model of governance based on accountability, transparency and responsive public administration.

Reviewing ongoing projects, he stressed the need for timely completion of works and directed concerned agencies to ensure quality execution and adherence to project timelines. He also heard public grievances related to civic amenities, public services and local developmental requirements, assuring residents that genuine issues would be taken up with the concerned departments.

Highlighting the government’s broader agenda, Sagar said special emphasis is being laid on strengthening urban infrastructure, improving sanitation and drainage systems, ensuring uninterrupted delivery of essential services and creating employment opportunities for youth.

Reiterating his commitment to public service, he said the government would continue to prioritise people-centric governance and ensure that the benefits of development reach every household in Srinagar, particularly in the Khanyar constituency.

During the tour, Sagar also visited the bereaved families of Ghulam Muhammad Wani and Shabir Hussain Khan, offering condolences and prayers for the departed souls.
