Jammu: Press Council of India has invited claims from eligible associations of persons managing news agencies, or news agencies themselves, for the reconstitution of the Council for its 15th term.
The Press Council of India, a statutory quasi-judicial body constituted under the Press Council Act 1978, is mandated to preserve press freedom and maintain and improve journalistic standards in the country.
Officials said the 14th term of the Council concluded on October 5, 2024. While claims were earlier invited for reconstitution of the Council, no claim was received under Section 5(3)(c) of the Act relating to news agencies.
Accordingly, the Chairperson of the Press Council has invited fresh claims from eligible associations and news agencies under Section 5(3)(c) of the Act for notification in the Official Gazette.
Applications in sealed envelopes must reach the Chairperson of the Press Council of India on or before June 19, 2026, by 5 pm.
The advertisement was issued on May 17, 2026, and published in newspapers across the country.
Further details and the advertisement are available on the official website of the Press Council of India.
