New Delhi: Droupadi Murmu has conferred the Padma Shri upon Shafi Shauq in recognition of his contribution to the fields of literature and education.
Prof Shafi Shauq is a noted Indian creative writer who has authored, edited and translated numerous books in Kashmiri, English, Hindi and Urdu.
He served as a faculty member at the University of Kashmir for 33 years.
Apart from writing poetry and fiction, Prof Shafi Shauq has translated several works of Indian literature as well as many literary compositions from Kashmiri into English and Hindi, contributing significantly towards promotion and preservation of Kashmiri language and literature.
