Anantnag: Minister for Health and Medical Education, Social Welfare and Education Sakeena Itoo on Wednesday presided over the renaming ceremony of Government High School Hapatnar as Shaheed Adil Hussain Shah Memorial Government High School Hapatnar.
MLA Pahalgam Altaf Ahmad Wani, senior officers, family members of Shaheed Adil Hussain Shah and local residents attended the ceremony.
Addressing the gathering, the minister paid tributes to Shaheed Adil Hussain Shah and described the renaming of the school as a tribute to his courage, sacrifice and patriotism.
Calling Shaheed Adil Hussain a national hero, Sakeena Itoo said his sacrifice would always be remembered and the institution dedicated in his name would inspire future generations.
“Everyone remembers martyr Adil Sahib. Along with Jammu and Kashmir, he has left his mark across the country. No one can ever forget the sacrifice he made,” she said.
The minister recalled that Chief Minister Omar Abdullah and former Chief Minister Farooq Abdullah had promised the family that the school would be renamed after the martyr and added that the government fulfilled the promise within a year.
Sakeena Itoo said educational institutions play a vital role in shaping society and added that dedicating the school to Shaheed Adil Hussain Shah would motivate students towards discipline, hard work and nation-building.
Highlighting the government’s focus on education, healthcare and social welfare, she said several initiatives are being undertaken to improve educational infrastructure and provide quality education, especially in rural and far-flung areas.
During the programme, the minister interacted with students, teaching staff and local residents and assured them that genuine public issues raised during the visit would be addressed.
A short documentary on the life and sacrifice of Shaheed Adil Hussain Shah was also screened during the event, while speakers highlighted his bravery and humanitarian values.
