Shopian: Darakhshan Andrabi on Thursday said strengthening cultural and spiritual ties with the region’s rich heritage is essential for building a crime-free and peaceful society.
She was addressing the social transformation programme “Asluk Aalav” organised by Public Welfare Foundation Shopian in Shopian along with Ashok Koul.
Waqf Board Executive Officer for Shopian Javed Qadiri and social activist Arshid Bhat were also present during the programme.
Addressing the gathering, Dr Andrabi said that “Asluk Aalav” is an important public discourse initiative being organised across districts of Kashmir to focus on key reformative and social issues.
“Strengthening cultural and spiritual ties with our glorious past are needed for a crime-free society. We belong to the holy land of Sufis and Rishis and the connection with their teachings of inclusiveness will save us from divisive forces,” she said.
Dr Andrabi stressed the need for guiding the younger generation towards a holistic lifestyle rooted in harmony, morality and peace.
“We have suffered immensely due to hatred and violence in the past and cannot afford to fall prey to divisive forces again. We have to strengthen peace and establish a fearless and progressive society,” she added.
Speaking on the occasion, Ashok Koul said the youth must be prepared to face the challenges of the modern world and encouraged to become responsible and positive citizens.
“Communal harmony, brotherhood and the spirit of social service are essential for creating a peaceful society. We have to bridge gaps within our social fabric,” he said.
He also emphasised the importance of inter-community dialogue and public discourse for ensuring social peace and development.
