Srinagar: Minister for Agriculture Production, Rural Development and Panchayati Raj, Cooperative and Election Department Javid Ahmad Dar on Monday completed the self-enumeration process for Census 2027, describing it as a major milestone in India’s digital governance framework.

The minister said Census 2027 is India’s first fully digital and paperless Census exercise and integrates advanced digital technologies, mobile-based data collection systems and self-enumeration mechanisms to ensure efficiency, transparency and real-time monitoring.

Javid Dar said the initiative reflects the Government of India’s commitment towards technology-driven governance and evidence-based policy planning.

He urged citizens to actively participate in the self-enumeration process within the stipulated timeline to ensure accurate and comprehensive data collection.

Officials said the self-enumeration phase is being conducted from May 17 to May 31, 2026.

The questionnaire includes details related to housing and building conditions, household assets, sanitation and drinking water facilities, type of construction, communication and transport facilities, as well as electricity and internet connectivity.

The minister said reliable census data is essential for effective planning and implementation of developmental schemes and helps governments formulate targeted policies for socio-economic development and public welfare.
