Srinagar: Deputy Commissioner Srinagar and Principal Census Officer (Rural) Akshay Labroo and Commissioner Srinagar Municipal Corporation and Principal Census Officer (Urban) Faz Lul Haseeb on Friday chaired a joint meeting to review preparations for Phase-I operations of Census 2027 in Srinagar district.
The meeting, held at the Banquet Hall Conference Complex Srinagar, was attended by district and sectoral officers of various departments.
During the meeting, the officers reviewed modalities for self-enumeration, progress of House Listing Operations (HLO) and updation of data on the Census Management and Monitoring System (CMMS).
The Deputy Commissioner stressed the importance of accuracy, transparency and coordination during the census exercise, calling it a crucial national activity for policy planning and governance.
He directed officers to ensure that no household is left uncovered during the House Listing Operations and instructed departments to provide full logistical and technical support to field staff.
The DC also emphasised the need for regular monitoring of field-level progress and timely updation of data on the CMMS portal to avoid discrepancies and delays.
Highlighting the importance of public participation, he directed officials to intensify awareness campaigns regarding the self-enumeration process and provide adequate support to field teams handling digital platforms.
SMC Commissioner Faz Lul Haseeb reviewed the urban component of the census operations and directed charge officers and field staff to ensure proper verification and timely completion of house listing in all municipal wards.
Additional Deputy Commissioner and Charge Officer (Rural) Mir Imtiyaz Ul Aziz briefed the meeting about the arrangements made in rural areas, while Joint Commissioner SMC and Charge Officer (Urban) Nuzhat Qureshi presented progress regarding urban census preparations.
District Statistics and Evaluation Officer Shah Ismail Bangroo informed the meeting through a presentation that the self-enumeration phase will be conducted from May 17 to May 31, 2026, through the official census portal, while household visits for scrutiny and verification will take place from June 1 to June 30, 2026.
The meeting was attended by senior civil and police officers, representatives of various departments and field-level functionaries associated with the census exercise.
