Shopian: District-level celebrations under the nationwide campaign “Somnath Swabhiman Parv – 75 Years of Reconstruction and Inauguration of Somnath Temple” were held on Monday at the historic Tirath Raj Kapal Mochan Temple in Deegam area of Shopian district.
The event witnessed enthusiastic participation from devotees and members of the public and was organised in accordance with the directions of the Ministry of Culture, Government of India, to commemorate the spiritual and cultural legacy associated with the Somnath Temple.
Deputy Commissioner Shopian Shishir Gupta, along with Additional District Development Commissioner Dr. Nasir Ahmad Lone and other officers and officials, also participated in the celebrations.
Speaking on the occasion, the Deputy Commissioner said such programmes reflected India’s rich civilisational heritage and helped strengthen the spirit of unity, faith and communal harmony among people.
As part of the celebrations, devotional bhajans, puja rituals, public participation drives, cleanliness campaigns and awareness activities were organised at the temple premises.
