Sopore: Senior BJP leader and J&K BJP General Secretary (Organisation) Ashok Koul on Monday called for a collective social movement against drug abuse, saying the growing menace poses a serious threat to society, particularly the youth.

He was addressing a “Nasha Mukht Abhiyaan” programme at Dakbunglow Sopore in north Kashmir’s Baramulla district, organised by the Jammu Kashmir Development Foundation. Koul also participated in a plantation drive at Dakbunglow Park to promote environmental awareness and sustainable living.

Among those present on the occasion were J&K Waqf Board Chairperson Dr. Darakshan Andrabi, BJP State Cell Co-Incharge Bilal Parry, BJP District President Baramulla Gh. Hussain Dar, senior party leaders, social activists, youth, and local residents.

Addressing the gathering, Koul said drug addiction has emerged as one of the biggest challenges confronting society and stressed the need for collective efforts to eliminate the menace from Jammu and Kashmir. He said the “Nasha Mukht Abhiyaan” was not merely a campaign but a social responsibility aimed at protecting future generations from the destructive impact of narcotics.

Referring to Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s vision of a drug-free India, Koul urged all sections of society to actively contribute to the mission. He said grassroots awareness, family support, educational institutions, religious organisations, and social groups all have an important role in preventing the spread of drug abuse.

Speaking about the plantation drive, Koul underlined the importance of environmental protection for the well-being of future generations. He said tree plantation was a meaningful step towards addressing pollution, climate change, and ecological imbalance, and appealed to the youth to actively participate in such initiatives to help build a greener and cleaner Jammu and Kashmir.

Dr. Andrabi, while speaking on the occasion, said social reform and public awareness were essential to eradicate drug abuse from society. She urged parents, teachers, and community leaders to remain vigilant and guide the younger generation towards constructive and productive activities.

She also stressed that environmental conservation and social awareness campaigns must go hand in hand for the betterment of society.

Bilal Parry and other senior leaders also highlighted the importance of public participation in social and environmental initiatives and reiterated their commitment to building a healthier, greener, and drug-free society in Jammu and Kashmir.
