Jammu:  Superintendent of Police (SP) Anna Sinha on Sunday made a strong appeal for a united fight against drug abuse, saying that the movement for a drug-free society is crucial for Jammu and Kashmir as well as the entire country.

She visited the Octroi border outpost (BoP) along the International Border at R S Pura in Jammu district, where she interacted with BSF personnel, members of the public and NCC cadets, urging people to adopt a drug-free lifestyle.

Addressing a public awareness programme, SP Anna said that patriotism is not limited to armed service but is also reflected in responsible civic behaviour and collective efforts to eliminate drug addiction from society.

“Drug de-addiction is very important for Jammu and for the whole of India. It is our collective responsibility”, she said.

She urged citizens to actively participate in preventing drug abuse and to remain alert about suspicious activities in their surroundings.

“Being patriotic does not only mean going to fight. We have our forces for that. As responsible citizens, we can show patriotism by keeping ourselves away from drugs and helping others stay away from it,” she said.

Addressing parents and youth, she stressed the need for vigilance at the family level.

If you see teenagers or young people going towards drugs, please pay attention. Mothers and fathers must ensure their children do not fall into addiction,” she added.

SP Anna said that every individual is a valuable human resource for the nation and their progress directly contributes to national development.

“If you do well in studies, career and life, the country will move forward. That itself is your patriotism,” she said.

She also appealed to the public to report drug-related activities through emergency helpline 112. “If you see drugs being sold or people involved in it, dial 112 and report it. Raise your voice.”

She further assured that the police department is open to assisting in both action against drug trafficking and rehabilitation of those affected by addiction, calling for a collective effort to build a “drug-free society”.

She encouraged the youth to choose fitness, dedication and valour over substance abuse and adopt a healthy, disciplined and active lifestyle, saying young people are the backbone of the nation and must contribute positively towards society and national development.

Sinha also motivated NCC cadets to uphold the values of discipline, integrity and service to the nation, urging them to act as role models in their communities and spread awareness about the harmful effects of drug abuse.

She reaffirmed the continued efforts by police and security forces to support awareness initiatives and strengthen community engagement under ongoing anti-drug campaigns.
