SRINAGAR: To mark World Red Cross Day 2026, the District Red Cross Committee Srinagar on Thursday organised a function at Government Girls Higher Secondary School Nawa Kadal.

Deputy Commissioner Srinagar Akshay Labroo, who is also the Chairman of the District Red Cross Committee, attended the event as the chief guest.

Addressing the gathering, the Deputy Commissioner highlighted the vital role played by Red Cross teams and volunteers in extending timely assistance to the needy during emergencies, disasters and other humanitarian situations. He said the spirit of humanity, compassion and voluntary service reflected by Red Cross volunteers serves as an inspiration for society.

The DC said Red Cross volunteers continue to support vulnerable sections of society not only during emergencies but also in everyday life through acts of kindness and humanitarian service. Appreciating the dedication and commitment of Red Cross workers, he urged students to actively participate in humanitarian and social welfare activities for the betterment of society, particularly during calamities and other exigencies.

Akshay Labroo also emphasized the importance of mental health and well-being among students, saying it is essential for properly channelizing their talent and potential. He advised students to avoid unnecessary pressure and overthinking and continue their studies in a positive and healthy atmosphere.

The Deputy Commissioner appreciated the school administration and the District Red Cross Committee for organizing the programme aimed at promoting humanitarian values among the younger generation.

During the event, the Deputy Commissioner felicitated students and distributed appreciation certificates for their participation and achievements.

Speakers on the occasion also generated awareness among students about humanitarian values, social responsibility and voluntary service while highlighting the significance of World Red Cross Day and the contributions of Red Cross volunteers across the globe.

The programme also featured cultural performances and awareness activities presented by students, reflecting the themes of humanity, peace and service to mankind.
