SRINAGAR: J&K Bank and Jammu and Kashmir Police on Thursday signed an addendum to their 2023 Memorandum of Understanding (MoU), enhancing welfare and insurance benefits for police personnel, Special Police Officers (SPOs) and families of martyrs.
The addendum was signed by Director General of Police Nalin Prabhat and Managing Director and CEO of J&K Bank Amitava Chatterjee in the presence of senior officers of the police department and the bank.
Officials said the revised agreement provides enhanced insurance cover, compensation and welfare support, including assistance for critical medical treatment, children’s education and family responsibilities.
Speaking on the occasion, the DGP said that with 1,620 police personnel having laid down their lives in the line of duty over the past three decades, supporting their families was a solemn responsibility.
He said the enhanced health insurance cover would help ensure that serious illness or injury does not become a financial burden on the families of police personnel and SPOs serving in challenging operational conditions.
Nalin Prabhat also said the peace and stability witnessed in Jammu and Kashmir had come at a significant cost borne by the police force and reiterated the department’s commitment towards the welfare, dignity and future security of personnel and their families.
He directed field formations and senior officers to ensure effective dissemination of information regarding the enhanced welfare benefits among all ranks.
Amitava Chatterjee said J&K Bank shares a longstanding association with J&K Police and described the addendum as a reflection of the bank’s continued commitment towards the financial security and welfare of police personnel and their families.
He also appreciated the support extended by J&K Police to the bank in tackling cyber frauds and digital financial crimes linked to online banking channels.
Additional Director General of Police Manish K Sinha also lauded the initiative and said both institutions have played vital roles in strengthening security and economic stability in Jammu and Kashmir.
Earlier, General Manager Rakesh Magotra gave a presentation on the enhanced welfare framework for police personnel and their families.
Among others present on the occasion were SDG-P Coordination SJM Gillani and CGM J&K Bank Ashutosh Sareen, besides other senior officers of J&K Police and the bank. Various unit heads of the police department joined the event virtually.
