SRINAGAR: Divisional Commissioner Kashmir Anshul Garg on Thursday chaired a high-level meeting to review arrangements for the smooth and peaceful celebration of Eid al-Adha across the Kashmir Valley.
During the meeting, the Divisional Commissioner directed officials of Kashmir Power Distribution Corporation Limited to ensure uninterrupted electricity supply at major religious places, including Hazratbal Shrine, Kalashpora, Jenab Sahab Soura, Ziyarat Sharief Kabamarg, Khiram in Anantnag, Ziyarat Sharief Makhama and Aham-i-Sharief in Bandipora.
He also instructed concerned departments to ensure adequate and uninterrupted supply of potable drinking water and address any water-related issues promptly during the festival period.
Stressing the importance of availability of essential commodities, Anshul Garg directed the concerned authorities to maintain sufficient stocks of rice, atta, sugar and other essentials across the Valley.
The Director Sheep Husbandry was asked to ensure adequate availability of sacrificial animals ahead of Eid-ul-Adha, while Wakf authorities were directed to properly regulate designated sale locations to prevent traffic congestion and inconvenience to the public.
The Divisional Commissioner also called for intensified market inspections to curb overpricing and prevent sale of substandard goods. He stressed close coordination among enforcement agencies to ensure fair pricing and adequate availability of commodities, particularly mutton and poultry.
To maintain cleanliness during the festival, special sanitation drives were ordered in and around mosques, shrines, markets and residential areas. Srinagar Municipal Corporation was directed to deploy adequate manpower for door-to-door collection of animal hides.
Traffic authorities were instructed to implement proper traffic management plans around major mosques and marketplaces to ensure smooth vehicular movement during Eid prayers and festivities.
The Divisional Commissioner also directed the Health Department to deploy medical teams at major shrines and mosques in view of the expected rush of devotees.
Directions were further issued for deployment of fire tenders and adequate security personnel at congregation sites to ensure peaceful celebrations.
The meeting was attended by Deputy Commissioners, SSPs and senior officers from departments including Sheep Husbandry, Animal Husbandry, FCS&CA, Health, KPDCL, PHE, SMC, PWD, Fire Services, ULB, Wakf Board and Legal Metrology.
