Pulwama: Jammu & Kashmir Police on Sunday said it foiled an attempt to smuggle illegal timber in south Kashmir’s Pulwama district, recovering a significant quantity of illicit forest produce during a raid in the Sangerwani area.
According to a police statement, acting on reliable information received by Police Post Sangerwani about illegal forest timber concealed by an individual, a special raid was launched in Badi Behak.
The statement identified the accused as Liaqat Ahmad Doie, son of Nizam-ud-Din Doie, a resident of Sonabanjer, who had allegedly concealed timber in a storage structure (kotha).
Police said that during the search operation, conducted in coordination with officials from the Forest Department, six wooden beams and seven raw round logs were recovered and seized from the spot.
“The recovered timber has been handed over to the Forest Department for further necessary action,” the statement said.
In this regard, police said that a case under FIR No. 76/2026 has been registered under Section 303(ii) of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita and Section 26 of the Forest Act, and further investigation has been taken up.
