Jammu: The Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP), Jammu & Kashmir, on Sunday held a meeting of its MLAs at the party headquarters in Trikuta Nagar, Jammu, focusing on intensifying efforts against drug abuse and raising concerns over the policies of the National Conference (NC) government.
The meeting was chaired by J&K BJP President and Rajya Sabha MP Sat Sharma and Leader of Opposition in the J&K Assembly Sunil Sharma. Party General Secretaries Sanjita Dogra and Baldev Singh Billawaria were also present.
Addressing the meeting, Sat Sharma reiterated the BJP’s commitment to safeguarding the youth of Jammu & Kashmir from the growing menace of drugs. He said the party would actively contribute to the ongoing de-addiction movement across the Union Territory.
He lauded the leadership of Union Home Minister Amit Shah for spearheading a strong campaign against narcotics and appreciated the efforts of Lieutenant Governor Manoj Sinha and the administration in dismantling drug networks and spreading awareness.
Sharma emphasized that every BJP MLA will work at the grassroots level to support awareness campaigns, rehabilitation initiatives, and strict enforcement measures to prevent youth from falling prey to substance abuse. He described drug addiction as a direct threat to the future of Jammu & Kashmir and said BJP legislators would fully support the mission to build a drug-free society.
He also expressed gratitude to Prime Minister Narendra Modi and the Central Government for accelerating development in the region. Highlighting key achievements, he referred to the railway expansion connecting Jammu to Kashmir and the enhanced road connectivity under the Pradhan Mantri Gram Sadak Yojana (PMGSY), stating that these initiatives have significantly improved infrastructure and economic prospects in remote areas.
Meanwhile, Sunil Sharma launched a strong attack on the National Conference government, accusing it of pursuing “anti-people and deceptive policies.” He alleged that the administration is attempting to make nearly 24,000 backdoor appointments through outsourcing agencies, calling it a betrayal of educated unemployed youth.
He asserted that BJP MLAs would raise the issue both inside and outside the Assembly, vowing to expose any attempts to bypass transparency and merit in recruitment processes.
Sharma also criticized the recent hike in transport fares, terming it “anti-poor and anti-middle class.” He said the increase would adversely impact daily commuters, students, traders, employees, and families already grappling with inflation and economic challenges.
Accusing the government of failing to fulfil its pre-election promises, he said the National Conference had instead imposed additional financial burdens on the public through increased tariffs and fare hikes.
“The NC government has committed a fraud with the people of Jammu & Kashmir by betraying the trust reposed in it,” Sunil Sharma said, adding that the BJP would continue to raise public concerns against every anti-people decision of the government.
