Jammu: Deputy Chief Minister Surinder Choudhary on Thursday reaffirmed the government’s commitment to ensuring workers’ welfare and social security across Jammu and Kashmir on the occasion of Labour Day.
In his message, Choudhary described the working class as the backbone of the economy and emphasised their vital role in driving development and progress. He said the government remains committed to safeguarding workers’ rights through the effective implementation of labour laws and welfare schemes.
“Our workers are the foundation of economic growth. The government is committed towards ensuring safe working conditions, fair wages, social security and dignity of labour for every worker across the Union Territory,” he said.
Highlighting recent labour reforms, the Deputy Chief Minister referred to the introduction of comprehensive frameworks covering wages, industrial relations, occupational safety, and social security. He termed these as landmark reforms aimed at strengthening worker protection while simplifying compliance.
“The new Labour Codes aim to ensure universal minimum wages, improved workplace safety, enhanced social security, and effective dispute resolution mechanisms,” he said, adding that the Labour Department is actively working to implement these reforms and build a transparent and worker-friendly ecosystem in the Union Territory.
He also stressed the need for greater awareness and outreach, calling for intensified campaigns to ensure that all eligible workers are registered and able to avail benefits under various central and UT-level welfare schemes.
“Maximum outreach of labour welfare schemes is essential to strengthen economic security and improve the living standards of workers,” he added.
