Drug Disposal Committee Shopian destroys seized narcotics in 26 NDPS cases

Shopian: Acting on the directions of the District Court Shopian and in line with Section 52A of the NDPS Act, the Drug Disposal Committee Shopian on Tuesday destroyed a large quantity of seized narcotic substances linked to multiple cases across the district.

The disposal was carried out at the IGC Kashmir Health Care System in Lassipora, following strict legal procedures and environmental safety norms. The contraband had been seized in 26 NDPS FIRs registered at Police Stations Shopian, Zainapora, Heerpora, Imamsahib and Keller.

According to officials, the destroyed substances included 64.719 kilograms of charas, 56.126 kilograms of poppy straw, 34.761 kilograms of cannabis, 20.745 kilograms of bhung, 4.118 kilograms of ganja, and 10 grams of heroin. The entire process was documented through photography and videography for official records.

Police reiterated their commitment to tackling drug trafficking and abuse, saying sustained action will continue against the menace. They also urged the public to play an active role by reporting any drug-related activities to the nearest police station.
