Jammu: The Jammu and Kashmir State Election Commission has extended the deadline for filing claims and objections for the revision of Panchayat Electoral Rolls 2026 to May 5, 2026.
According to an official communication, the extension has been granted following requests from several districts. The revision is being carried out with April 1, 2026 as the qualifying date and is in continuation of the Commission’s earlier notification issued on March 25.
Under the revised schedule, claims and objections related to addition, deletion, correction, or transposition in the electoral rolls can be submitted from March 27 to May 5.
To facilitate voters, special camps will be organised at polling booths on May 2 and May 3. Officials, including Panchayat Election Booth Officials such as Village Level Workers, Multi-Purpose Workers, Gram Rozgar Sevaks, along with Assembly Booth Level Officers, will be present with draft electoral rolls and necessary forms to assist the public.
The Electoral Registration Officer will dispose of all claims and objections by May 14, while the final Panchayat Electoral Roll 2026 will be published on May 21.
The Commission has directed District Panchayat Election Officers to ensure strict adherence to the revised timeline and to give wide publicity at the grassroots level through field functionaries, including Numberdars and Chowkidars, so that all eligible voters are covered.
Officials have also been asked to conduct house-to-house surveys to enrol left-out and new voters in Panch wards and Panchayats, and to organise additional camps where required.
