Srinagar: Jammu & Kashmir Police on Tuesday intensified its anti-drug crackdown across multiple districts of Kashmir, demolishing illegal properties, destroying contraband cultivation, and conducting enforcement and awareness drives under the ongoing Nasha Mukt Jammu & Kashmir Abhiyaan.

In Shopian, authorities removed illegally planted poplar and cherry trees and dismantled unauthorised shops raised on state land. The action targeted assets linked to individuals facing NDPS cases in Police Stations Zainapora and Shopian.

Officials said all actions were carried out strictly as per legal procedures and in the presence of competent authorities.

In Pulwama, police conducted coordinated search operations and Cordon and Search Operations (CASO) in areas including Rajpora, Rahmoo, and Lelhar to target suspected drug networks. A drug store in Pulwama town was sealed for violations related to controlled substances, while inspections of medical shops were intensified to prevent misuse of psychotropic drugs.

In Shopian, police carried out a special anti-drug CASO in identified hotspots such as Baba Mohalla, focusing on residences of suspected peddlers to disrupt local supply chains.

In Baramulla, joint inspection drives were conducted at Palhalan in coordination with the Health Department to ensure compliance with regulations governing the sale of scheduled drugs. Surprise checks were also carried out at Bus Stand Kreeri to curb illegal activities, including drug trafficking.

In Kulgam, police conducted rapid urine drug tests on drivers plying along the National Highway to curb drug-impaired driving and enhance road safety.

Senior Superintendent of Police Kulgam Anayat Ali Chowdhary urged transporters and drivers to stay away from drugs, follow traffic norms, and cooperate with law enforcement agencies. He also appealed to the public to share information about drug abuse and trafficking.

Parallel awareness drives were carried out across several districts. In Awantipora, rallies, school programmes, and a cross-country run were organized in Pampore, Khrew, and Tral. In Kulgam, a major anti-drug rally was held in Yaripora Market with participation from students and civil society.

Baramulla witnessed multiple awareness programmes and a rally from Pandu Park Pattan, while in Ganderbal, a unique Shikara rally at Manasbal Lake brought together students and officials to spread awareness. In Handwara, student-focused sessions highlighted the social and health risks of substance abuse.

Police also launched a coordinated drive against illegal poppy cultivation in Sopore, Anantnag, and Baramulla.

In Sopore, illicit opium cultivation was detected and destroyed at Magraypora, with an FIR registered against the accused. In Anantnag’s Srigufwara and Nanil areas, poppy crops spread across multiple land parcels were destroyed and several cases were registered under the NDPS Act.

In Baramulla’s Kunzer, police destroyed poppy cultivation at multiple locations, registering cases and collecting samples as evidence.

J&K Police reiterated its zero-tolerance stance against drug trafficking and substance abuse, emphasizing strict legal action against offenders. Authorities said the campaign combines enforcement, awareness, and community participation to dismantle drug networks and prevent future abuse.

The public has been urged to cooperate with law enforcement agencies and report any drug-related activities as part of the collective effort to build a drug-free Jammu & Kashmir.
