SRINAGAR: The Jammu and Kashmir Police has intensified its anti-drug campaign across Kashmir by launching anonymous tip lines, conducting large-scale awareness programmes, and stepping up enforcement actions under the ongoing Nasha Mukt Jammu & Kashmir Abhiyan.
In a significant move to strengthen public participation in combating drug abuse and trafficking, police launched dedicated anonymous anti-drug tip lines in Baramulla and Sopore.
In Baramulla, citizens can share information related to drug activities on 9596767701, with authorities assuring complete confidentiality of informants. The number is under the direct supervision of SSP Baramulla to ensure prompt action on credible inputs.
Similarly, in Sopore, a dedicated tip line 9596773144 has been made operational under the supervision of the District Police Office Sopore. Police urged the public to actively report drug peddling, substance abuse, and suspicious activities.
Continuing its outreach efforts, Sopore Police organised a mega awareness programme at Dak Bungalow Chijhama, Rafiabad, followed by a large public rally.
The programme was presided over by Iftkhar Talib, along with Addl SP Sarfaraz Bashir and SDPO Rafiabad Sharafat Nawaz. Over 2,000 participants, including students, teachers, traders, civil society members and religious scholars, attended the event.
Speakers highlighted the growing threat of drug abuse and its social consequences. SSP Sopore elaborated on provisions of the NDPS Act, early signs of addiction and availability of de-addiction facilities, urging collective societal efforts to tackle the menace.
A rally featuring anti-drug slogans such as “Say No to Drugs” and “Drugs Kill Dreams” was also held, reflecting strong public participation. Participants resolved to conduct awareness programmes at mohalla and village levels over the next three months.
Police organised awareness programmes under the campaign in Baramulla, Shopian, Kupwara and Awantipora.
In Baramulla, a programme at Higher Secondary School Fatehgarh sensitised students about the harmful effects of drug abuse.
In Shopian, multiple awareness sessions and a Pad Yatra were conducted at various schools and locations including Zainapora and Turkwangam.
In Kupwara, a programme at Drugmulla was held in collaboration with the Youth Services & Sports Department.
In Awantipora, awareness drives were conducted at several locations, including Tral and Khrew, focusing on youth sensitisation and community engagement.
Speakers across these programmes stressed the legal consequences of involvement in drug-related activities and encouraged participants to act as ambassadors of change.
In Ganderbal, police organised district-wide rallies and awareness programmes. A mega rally was held in Kangan, while a key event at Degree College Ganderbal saw participation from officials, faculty and students, who pledged to work collectively towards a drug-free society.
Police also intensified enforcement measures against illegal narcotic cultivation in Anantnag district.
Illicit poppy crops were destroyed at multiple locations, including Shergund, Wanihama and Bohripora Sagam, in the presence of Executive Magistrates and Agriculture Department officials. Cases have been registered under relevant provisions of law, and investigations are underway.
In Baramulla’s Uri area, police, in coordination with the Education Department, organised a drug awareness rally at Bijhama. Students from multiple schools participated, raising slogans and spreading awareness about the dangers of substance abuse.
In Shopian, police deployed narcotic detection dog squads in coordination with CRPF to strengthen enforcement against drug trafficking. Vehicle checking and naka operations have been intensified to disrupt supply chains and deter peddlers.
In Pulwama, police conducted inspections of medical shops in areas including Muran, Shadimarg, Abhama and Kakapora to ensure compliance with regulations governing sale of controlled substances.
Illegal poppy cultivation was also destroyed at Singhu Narbal and Dougam. Additionally, intensified checking operations, including deployment of K9 squads, have been carried out at sensitive locations such as schools, colleges, bus stands and markets.
Awareness programmes were also organised in Tujan and Sangarwani, focusing on educating youth and local residents about the harmful effects of drug abuse and legal implications.
J&K Police reiterated its commitment to eliminating drug abuse through a balanced approach of strict enforcement and community outreach. It urged citizens to actively support the initiative by sharing information and participating in awareness efforts to build a safer, drug-free society.
