DC Srinagar reviews telecom infrastructure, pushes for 4G saturation, BharatNet expansion

Srinagar: Deputy Commissioner Srinagar Akshay Labroo on Wednesday chaired a meeting of the District Telecom Committee to review the development of telecom infrastructure under the Jammu and Kashmir Communication and Connectivity Infrastructure Project.

The meeting, held at the DC Office Srinagar, was attended by Additional District Development Commissioner Rifat Aftab Qureshi, Additional Deputy Commissioner Mir Imtiyaz-ul-Aziz, Deputy Superintendent of Police Syed Sleeth Shah, district officers and representatives of various telecom companies operating in Srinagar.

During the meeting, the committee discussed issues related to strengthening telecom infrastructure and improving network connectivity across the district.

Detailed discussions were held on the construction and commissioning of mobile towers, 4G saturation, status of Right of Way permissions, progress under the amended BharatNet project, 5G street furniture mapping and other related matters.

The Deputy Commissioner stressed the need for close coordination among all departments to ensure timely completion of telecom infrastructure projects. He emphasised connecting every panchayat with its respective block under the project to strengthen governance and improve service delivery.

Labroo also called for saturation of 4G coverage and speedy implementation of the BharatNet project across the district, saying these initiatives were essential for improving digital connectivity and benefiting residents in all areas.

Highlighting the importance of reliable telecom services, he said better connectivity was crucial for governance, education, essential services and economic activity.

The DC also sought feedback from telecom companies and urged them to improve the quality of services, particularly in remote areas of the district.
