SRINAGAR: The Motor Vehicles Department (MVD) on Monday carried out a major enforcement drive across all districts of the Kashmir division to ensure strict compliance with traffic regulations and improve road safety.
The drive was conducted at multiple strategic locations, including high-traffic areas and accident-prone spots, under the supervision of the Regional Transport Officer, Kashmir, with overall monitoring by the Transport Commissioner, Jammu and Kashmir.
Special teams were deployed to check violations, including driving without a valid licence, overloading, non-use of seat belts and helmets, use of mobile phones while driving and violation of emission norms.
Officials said a significant number of vehicles were inspected during the drive.
As many as 822 traffic violators were issued challans, while 124 vehicles were blacklisted on the spot. In addition, 196 driving licences were recommended for suspension.
The department also realised a revenue of Rs 18.56 lakh from the challans under the provisions of the Motor Vehicles Act.
Officials said the enforcement initiative is aimed at instilling a sense of responsibility among motorists and reducing the incidence of road accidents across the Valley.
The department appealed to the public to cooperate with enforcement agencies and strictly follow traffic rules for their own safety and that of others.
The MVD said similar drives would continue in the coming weeks as part of an ongoing campaign to promote safer roads across Kashmir division.
