Srinagar: Jammu and Kashmir is likely to witness a fresh spell of adverse weather on April 7 and 8, with the Meteorological Department forecasting widespread rain and snowfall accompanied by thunderstorms, hailstorms and gusty winds across several parts of the Union Territory.

According to the forecast, wind speeds may reach 40 to 50 kmph during the two-day period, while weather conditions are expected to intensify on April 8 with stronger winds, heavy thundershowers and intermittent rain and snowfall.

The warning has raised concerns over possible flash floods, landslides and disruption to normal life, particularly in vulnerable and mountainous areas.

Officials said localised damage to infrastructure, traffic disruptions and interruptions in essential services cannot be ruled out during the peak weather activity.

Snowfall is likely in the higher reaches, while the plains are expected to receive rain and hail in some areas.

Authorities have advised people to remain alert and follow official advisories, particularly in districts prone to landslides, waterlogging and flash floods.

Farmers have been asked to protect standing crops and avoid field work during the period, while travellers have been urged to plan their journeys carefully and avoid unnecessary movement in vulnerable areas.

The MeT Department said the weather system could affect both the Kashmir and Jammu divisions and urged residents to remain prepared for sudden changes in weather conditions.
