Chushul, Ladakh: As part of the nationwide commemorative series marking 150 Years of the National Song “Vande Mataram”, Shaheedi Devas was solemnly observed today at the historic Rezang La War Memorial, Chushul.

The programme was organised by the Ladakh Academy of Art, Culture & Languages (LAACL) with enthusiastic participation from all sections of society.

A large number of school students from the adjoining villages of Chushul and Changthang, along with members of the general public, actively participated in the event. A mass singing of “Vande Mataram” was conducted on the occasion, creating a powerful atmosphere of patriotism and collective pride, while commemorating the enduring legacy of the national song.

While addressing the gathering, the speakers paid rich tributes to the supreme sacrifices of India’s war veterans and soldiers, acknowledging their courage and dedication in safeguarding the sovereignty and integrity of the nation. The dignitaries highly appreciated the noble initiative of observing Shaheedi Devas under the banner of Vande Mataram, describing it as a meaningful and fitting tribute to the martyrs who laid down their lives for the country.

The Commandant, 142 Brigade, Chushul graced the occasion as the Chief Guest, while the Nambardar (Goba) of Chushul Village attended as the Guest of Honour.

On the occasion, prominent speakers including the Commandant, 142 Brigade, Chushul; Tsewang Paljor, Deputy Secretary, LAACL, Leh; Angchuk, Nambardar (Goba), Chushul; and Nazir Hussain, Deputy Secretary, LAACL, Kargil, highlighted the historical significance of Shaheedi Devas and the relevance of celebrating it alongside the 150-year milestone of Vande Mataram.

The dignitaries elaborated on the historical background and enduring importance of “Vande Mataram”, emphasizing its pivotal role in India’s freedom struggle and its continued relevance in fostering national unity and identity. They also inspired the students and youth to uphold democratic values and contribute positively towards building a progressive, inclusive, and strong nation.

The 150 Years of Vande Mataram is a national commemorative initiative aimed at celebrating the spirit of the national song and its unique place in India’s history. Vande Mataram is not merely a song, but the collective consciousness of the nation, having served as the rallying cry of freedom fighters during India’s struggle for independence. In this regard, the Union Cabinet approved countrywide celebrations to ensure that the song’s revolutionary spirit and timeless message are passed on to future generations.

The programme concluded on a note of collective pride and renewed commitment, with participants reaffirming their dedication to the ideals embodied in the national song.

The proceedings of the programme were conducted by Sh. Nazir Hussain, Deputy Secretary, LAACL, Kargil.
