Social Forestry Department Budgam celebrates Chinar Day

Budgam: The Social Forestry Department Budgam on Saturday celebrated Chinar Day across the district by organising plantation drives and awareness activities aimed at promoting environmental conservation.

The day was observed to raise awareness about the ecological and cultural importance of the iconic Chinar tree in Kashmir and to encourage its preservation.

As part of the celebrations, Chinar saplings were planted at prominent locations including SIDCO Budgam and NIFT Budgam to enhance green cover and promote environmental sustainability in the district.

The plantation drive was conducted with the participation of officials and employees of the Social Forestry Department along with representatives of various institutions and stakeholders.

The events were led by the Range Forest Officer of Social Forestry Range Budgam, who highlighted the importance of preserving the Chinar tree and urged people to actively contribute to environmental protection and afforestation initiatives. He said the Chinar tree is not only a symbol of Kashmir’s natural heritage but also plays an important role in maintaining ecological balance.

Employees of the Social Forestry Department, staff members of NIFT Budgam and other stakeholders participated in the plantation drive and expressed their commitment to protecting the environment. Participants appreciated the department for organising initiatives that promote environmental awareness and responsibility among the public.

The department reiterated its commitment to continue similar plantation and awareness programmes in the future to promote greenery, protect natural resources and restore ecological balance across Budgam district.
