Srinagar: The egg samples collected around 20 days ago from various parts of Srinagar have been found safe for consumption and in compliance with the Food Safety and Standards Authority of India (FSSAI) norms, officials said on Friday.

Assistant Commissioner of Food Safety, Srinagar, Yameen ul Nabi told the news agency—Kashmir News Observer (KNO), that eight samples were collected from different supermarkets and wholesalers in the city. “The results came late last evening and all samples have been declared of standard quality,” he said.

He said the samples, both loose and packaged, were collected during previous surveillance drives to ensure the quality and safety of food items sold in local markets.

“The tests confirm that eggs available in Srinagar meet the FSSAI standards and are fit for human consumption,” he said, adding that the samples were collected from different parts of city as part of wider crackdown and came back after over 22 days.

He also appealed to the public “not to share unverified videos that can create unnecessary panic.” He also urged sections of the media to prioritise verified information, instead of amplifying rumours, and going live with “Nazree and Hazreen Share Karo”.

He said that such quality surveillance drives will continue to safeguard public health and maintain confidence in the local food supply chain—(KNO)
