Srinagar: Khyber Cement collaborated with The Institution of Engineers (India) for Zabaan-o-Bunyad: Empowering Non-Engineer Builders through Urdu-Medium Technical Training, a two-day workshop held on 5th and 6th December at the IEI Auditorium, Church Lane, Sonwar Bagh, Srinagar.

Led by The Institution of Engineers (India), the initiative focused on structured learning for the grassroots construction professionals, enabling them to enhance their technical understanding and contribute more effectively to Kashmir’s development.

The inaugural session featured a distinguished Expert Resource Panel comprising leading academicians, technical experts, and senior engineers from NIT Srinagar, JKPPD, GCET, and SSM College of Engineering, setting a strong technical direction for the workshop. The workshop was attended by Fazlul Haseeb, IAS, Commissioner SMC/CEO SSCL, underscoring the administration’s support for technical learning in the region.

Speaking on the successful completion of the programme, Mr Riaz Tramboo, Director of Operations, Khyber Cement, said: “Providing structured technical training to non-engineers is vital because the knowledge they gain directly reflects in the structures built across Kashmir. With proper training, that experience transforms into safer, more reliable construction. Supporting Zabaan-o-Bunyad is our way of strengthening the hands that shape Kashmir’s future.”

Reflecting on the collaboration, Umar Tramboo, Director Corporate & Strategy, Khyber Cement, added: “This programme gives non-engineers the technical clarity needed to strengthen Kashmir’s infrastructure. For Khyber Cement, initiatives like these are part of our core belief system. Our collaboration goes beyond financial support as it reflects Khyber Cement’s long-standing commitment to empowering communities and uplifting the people who build Kashmir every day”

For Khyber Cement, the association represented an ongoing commitment to uplift and grow Kashmir’s communities. The brand has consistently invested in people-centred initiatives across the region, from supporting sports and nurturing young athletes to providing equipment, training, and ongoing skill-building opportunities, and this partnership with The Institution of Engineers (India) for Urdu-medium technical training is a deliberate extension of that work.

With the 105-year legacy of The Institution of Engineers (India) and Khyber Cement’s strong grassroots connect, Zabaan-o-Bunyad emerged as a significant step in strengthening Kashmir’s construction landscape. Featuring expert-led sessions, live demonstrations, and practical learning for non-engineer participants, the workshop reinforced Khyber Cement’s belief in education, empowerment, and progress built in the language of the people.
