Srinagar: The Economic Offences Wing (Crime Branch Kashmir) has registered a case against an individual accused of fabricating his identity and submitting forged documents before a court in Srinagar.
According to officials, the Wing received a written complaint alleging that Amir Ahmad Munshi, purportedly the son of Late Ghulam Ahmad Munshi, had falsely claimed to be his brother. Investigations revealed that the accused is, in fact, the son of Showkat Hussain Bhat, a resident of Hamdaniya Colony, Bemina, Srinagar.
The complaint further stated that the accused had forged multiple official documents, including a Municipal Date of Birth Certificate, Domicile Certificate, School Records, Voter List, and Permanent Resident Certificate (PRC), which were allegedly produced before a competent court.
Officials said the acts of the accused prima facie constitute offences under Sections 420 (cheating), 468 (forgery for purpose of cheating), and 471 (using forged documents as genuine) of the Indian Penal Code.
Taking cognizance of the matter, the Economic Offences Wing registered a formal case at its police station. The investigation is currently underway, and further action will follow based on the findings.
