Srinagar: Jammu and Kashmir Peoples’ Conference (JKPC) president Sajad Gani Lone on Wednesday hit out at chief minister Omar Abdullah over his resignation statement in pretext of restoration of statehood, saying the fresh remark is yet another series of theatrical tantrums.
Lone said that in the history of the National Conference nobody has ever resigned and nobody will ever resign in future.
In a post on X, JKPC president Sajad Lone said: “In the history of NC nobody has ever resigned. Nobody will ever resign in the future. They believe in the maxim. Power at any cost. They did not resign when the Autonomy resolution was rejected by the Union Government, when current CM sahib was a union minister in the government which rejected the autonomy resolution. 5 August (2019) they had 3 MPs in the parliament. None of them resigned”.
“In 1989 Farooq Sahib resigned when law and order had broken down completely and the entire NC council of ministers fled the valley,” Lone said.
He added, “CM Sahib’s statement that he would resign if it paves way for statehood is yet another series of theatrical tantrums. Till date the assembly has not passed a resolution on statehood. That describes his seriousness on the issue”.
While challenging chief minister Omar Abdullah over his claim, Lone continued: ““You really mean business. Resign. We all will resign. And sit on protest in Jantar Mantar. Your statements of intent are as true as the promises you made in the election manifesto. But mark my words. This government will go down in history as the most inefficient and invisible government and will be viewed with contempt and odium. The only thing this government can do is to lie and weaponise transfers and go after opponents”.
Pertinently chief minister Omar Abdullah on Tuesday said he has no objections if the Legislative Assembly has to be dissolved and fresh elections are to be conducted after statehood is restored to Jammu and Kashmir. “I have read in a newspaper that statehood will be restored but assembly elections would have to be held afresh.
Let them do it, who has stopped them,” Abdullah told reporters at Gulmarg, 52 kilometres from here. Abdullah, who was sworn in as the first Chief Minister of the Union Territory of Jammu and Kashmir in October last year, said that statehood is the right of the people of Jammu and Kashmir.
This statehood is not for any MLA or the government. This statehood is for the people of Jammu and Kashmir and we MLAs will not be an obstacle in it. “If the MLAs are being threatened with the dissolution of the Assembly for the restoration of statehood, then do it. The day the state is established again, the next day we will go to the governor and recommend the dissolution of the Assembly. Don’t try to scare us … statehood is our right and give it (back) to us,” he added.
