ICR-ER team visits District Emergency Operation Centre, Srinagar

SRINAGAR: To assess the operational readiness and effectiveness of the District Emergency Operation Centre (DEOC) in managing disasters/emergency situations including natural disasters and other calamities, a team from Integrated Control Room for Emergency Response (ICR-ER), Ministry of Home Affairs Disaster Management Division, today visited the District Emergency Operation Centre (DEOC) in Srinagar.

The team was comprised of Bharat Singh Rawat and Davinder Mishra, accompanied by the CEO/ERO/Nodal Officer of the State Emergency Operations Centre (SEOC),

Chief Executive Officer of the District Disaster Management Authority (DDMA), Srinagar, Aadil Fareed and Additional Deputy Commissioner, Srinagar, Mir Imtiyaz-ul-Aziz, besides other concerned, were present on the occasion.

During the visit, the team had a detailed assessment of the facilities at the District Emergency Operation Centre, Srinagar, instrumental in coordinating responses during critical incidents. Notably, the DEOC served as a focal response centre during the Pahalgam incident, where over 4,300 calls were received and managed efficiently, demonstrating the centre’s capacity to handle large-scale emergencies.

On the occasion, the team was provided a comprehensive presentation on the functioning of the Decision Support System (DSS) during disaster situations by the Consultant DDMA Srinagar. He highlighted the importance of real-time data integration and analysis in enhancing the decision-making processes during emergencies.

He also briefed about the significance of updating the Indian Disaster Resource Network (IDRN), a national electronic inventory that catalogues equipment, human resources and critical supplies for emergency response. It was informed that the regular updates to IDRN are crucial for maintaining preparedness and ensuring effective resource mobilization during disasters.

The visiting team commended the efforts of the DDMA Srinagar and other stakeholders in strengthening the emergency response framework in the region. The members of the team reiterated the commitment of the Ministry of Home Affairs and the State Emergency Operations Centre to provide continued support and resources, enhancing the capabilities of the District Emergency Operation Centres across Jammu and Kashmir.
