Srinagar: Police have arrested three drug peddlers in Handwara and recovered contraband substances from their possession.
A police spokesperson informed that at Sultanpora Bridge arrested Raja Hashim Khan, son of Raja Altaf Khan, resident of Rengpath Kralgund, was arrested after six grams of a brown sugar-like substance was recovered from his possession.
At Gund Kuhroo, one Naveed Rehman Dhobi, son of Abdul Rehman Dhobi, from Dangiwacha Rafiabad, was arrested after 8.45 grams of heroin-like substance was recovered from his possession.
At Batpora, one Basharat Ahmad Bhat, son of Abdul Rahim Bhat of Magam Handwara, was arrested and seven grams of heroin-like substance was recovered from his possession.
Cases under relevant sections of law have been registered at Police Station Handwara and investigations are underway.
Two drug peddlers were also arrested with 7.5 grams of heroin in the Samba district on Sunday, police said.
The peddlers were riding a motorcycle when they were stopped by police during the checking of vehicles at Vijaypur on the Jammu-Pathankot highway, leading to the recovery of the narcotic substance, according to the police.
The accused individuals, Mohammad Mustafa and Usman Choudhary, from Badhori village, have been booked under the Narcotic Drugs and Psychotropic Substances (NDPS) Act.
