Baramulla: In a continued crackdown on drug trafficking, Baramulla Police on Monday arrested a drug peddler and recovered a significant quantity of contraband substance from his possession, said a police spokesperson.
“Acting on specific inputs, a police team from Police Station Pattan, led by the Station House Officer (SHO), set up a checkpoint at Kalsari near Grid Station Pattan. During routine checking, the team intercepted a suspect identified as Jahangir Ahmad Wani, son of Ghulam Mohammad Wani, a resident of Kharnipora Tangmarg,” the spokesperson said.
“Upon search, police recovered seven sticks of contraband substance resembling charas, weighing approximately 194 grams, wrapped in maize cortex. The accused was immediately taken into custody,” he said.
“A case under FIR No. 78/2025 has been registered at Police Station Pattan under sections 8 and 20 of the Narcotic Drugs and Psychotropic Substances (NDPS) Act. Further investigation is underway to trace the source and possible network involved in the drug trade,” he added.
